episode 19 to 24 acts as a filler ending of sorts
In place of Chapter 43 to 86 of the manga.
Still the manga go so dark and unpleasant at time that it not that surprising that they stopped.

Yeah, it was really odd because I had seen the anime for cheao in Best Buy, but just could not bring myself to but the box set. But, then a friend bought it and offered to let me borrow it but told me I would not make it pas the first 15 mins. or so. I am glad I did manage to sit through it because it was enjoyable.
I was hoping for a 2nd season or at least a manga that took things a little further. But yah, as you stated “5 yrs. later and absolutely nothing.”
