lol…no it wasn’t. … lol…no it wasn’t…punk in america was a term used in the 30’s and 40’s to describe a a young male partner of a homosexual especially in prisons!! it then came into common usage in society to describe someone who was worthless and unimportant; then in the 70’s in came to mean someone who was a criminal; thug etc!
the irony is that … the irony is that this is one of the most heroic songs ever! “no-one is a nobody, everyone is someone”
too bad this faded before the repeated refrain at the end “be what you are…”
GREAT clip, thanks for posting! awesome!
Actually, punk was … Actually, punk was originally a term used to describe American garage rock…punk as we know it would not exist if it weren’t for American proto-punk. Malcolm McLaren got the idea for punk “Fashion” from seeing Richard use pins on his shirts.
Although the word … Although the word punk originated in the u.s punk as a form of music and fashion started in the u.k….It was the british media who called it punk. what was going on in new york with the ramones and patti smith et el was something completely different! not punk at all.
Music scenes and … Music scenes and styles are always named by outsiders. Punk was originally an insult and the “first” punk band is the first band that said “Okay, so we’re punks. Who f-ing cares? 1-2-3-4…”
I have seen SLF in … I have seen SLF in the 70s and a good few times right up to date, they are superb live, Jake burns is a talent. They are still touring yet, get off you arses and witness this great band for yourself.
Punk couldnt have … Punk couldnt have started in the UK as the word punk was only ever used by the Yanks, Like bum It was another word the used for what the UK would call a waste of space. The word punk was never used here in the UK it was always used in the USA. That said, there have never been bigger or better punk bands than what have come out of the UK. The US punk scene could never have changed music the way the UK punk scene did.
