lol…no it wasn’t…punk in america was a term used in the 30’s and 40’s to describe a a young male partner of a homosexual especially in prisons!! it then came into common usage in society to describe someone who was worthless and unimportant; then in the 70’s in came to mean someone who was a criminal; thug etc!

    Actually, punk was …
Actually, punk was originally a term used to describe American garage rock…punk as we know it would not exist if it weren’t for American proto-punk. Malcolm McLaren got the idea for punk “Fashion” from seeing Richard use pins on his shirts.

    Music scenes and …
Music scenes and styles are always named by outsiders. Punk was originally an insult and the “first” punk band is the first band that said “Okay, so we’re punks. Who f-ing cares? 1-2-3-4…”

    Punk couldnt have …
Punk couldnt have started in the UK as the word punk was only ever used by the Yanks, Like bum It was another word the used for what the UK would call a waste of space. The word punk was never used here in the UK it was always used in the USA. That said, there have never been bigger or better punk bands than what have come out of the UK. The US punk scene could never have changed music the way the UK punk scene did.
