13. HOGAN’S HEROES - 11.25.1988 -Anthrax Club

Clip - 13. Stuck in a Rut. 1988 NJHC

from SBARTS TV:

“NOT ONE PERSON IN THIS CROWD HAS A CEL PHONE THEY DIDN’T EXIST BACK IN 1988 IN THE PUBLIC…Back then cel phones did not exist in the masses…there were no dvds…they didn’t exist. I lived through the birth of Rap, Hip Hop, Punk and Hardcore, Techno, Electonica. GOA, etc…. Oh what will come next?

1988 CLUB ANTHRAX NORWALK CONNECTICUT 20 YEARS AGO LIVE SOLD OUT.
It seems like it was yesterday and it was 20 years ago. The Cold War was almost over and people feared Nuclear Weapons on a daily basis Ronald Reagan was President n Chief.
Most people were spending there time with Kenny Loggins and Footloose and nose rings or even wearing your baseball cap on backwards was sure to get you noticed especially in Greenwich Connecticut…barely anyone wore different clothes or showed off piercings like nose rings…like they do now, no one did the things they do now…
It will never be the way it was… in the beginning. but we will stand strong…
Kids… you can’t stage dive like this now a days… you can’t even congregate like this. ..please seek a peaceful freedom for tibet…and Jolt Cola was the drug of choice..”

Los Crudos were an American hardcore punk band from Chicago, Illinois. They sang with a ferocious energy about political issues among the Latino community and the struggles we go through day by day. Their style of music paved the way in punk subculture that was predominantly ruled by the white community and set the standard for up and coming Spanish speaking punk bands that had a voice and message to be heard. With songs like “Tiempos De La Miseria” and “That’s Right, We’re A Spic Band”, Los Crudos challenged those who mocked them and referred them as nothing more than “that pic band”. With banners and self-made t-shirts reading “Illegal Y Que?!” (”Illegal, so what?!”), Los Crudos became a dominant political hardcore force that has been heard throughout every urban Latino community and gave minorities the strength and will to scream when their was no other way that they would be heard. This wasn’t your ordinary hardcore band. , even though they were highly popular in the Straight Edge scene, this was one band that was always proud to be crudo. Crudo soy!!

Footage was taken from the film, “Beyond The Screams: A U.S. Latino Hardcore Punk Documentary”. It includes an homage to hardcore Latino bands that were proud of there roots and never stopped screaming until they were heard. Bands include: Huasipungo (NY), Arma Contra Arma (Chicago), No Loss (Texas), Kontra Ataque (LA), Tras De Nada (Chicago), Subsistencia (LA), Logical Nonsense (New Mexico), Sbitch (Texas), Lifes Halt (LA and personal favorite!), and Youth Against (Chicago).

“Nosotros somos sin caras, no temes papeles ni derechos,
no pueden oir nuestras voces, pero nunca dejamos de gritar!”

In Theaters Now. For schedule: http://www.punksnotdeadthemovie.com

On the edge of the 30th anniversary of punk rock, Punk's Not Dead takes you into the sweaty underground clubs, backyard parties, recording studios, and yes, shopping malls and stadium shows where punk rock music and culture continue to thrive. Thirty years after bands like the Ramones and the Sex Pistols infamously shocked the system with their hard, fast, status-quo-killing rock, the longest-running punk band in history is drawing bigger crowds than ever, "pop-punk" bands have found success on MTV, and kids too young to drive are forming bands that carry the torch for punk's raw, immediate sound. Meanwhile, "punk" has become a marketing concept to sell everything from cars to vodka, and dyed hair and piercings mark a rite of passage for thousands of kids. Can the true, nonconformist punk spirit still exist in today's corporatized culture? Featuring interviews, performances, and behind-the-scenes journeys with the bands, labels, fans, and press who keep punk alive, Punk's Not Dead dares to juxtapose pop-punk's music and lifestyle against the roots in the 70s and 80s, resulting in unexpected revelations.
A DIY search for the soul of a subculture and a celebration of all things loud, fast, and spiked, Punk's Not Dead shows punk is stronger and more relevant today than it's ever been.

Live performances, interviews and antics from: 36 Daggers, 999, The Adicts, Alkaline Trio, Anti-Flag, Angelic Upstarts, The Anti-Nowhere League, The Ataris, The Bad Brains, Bad Religion, The Bags, Bang Sugar Bang, Squad, Jello Biafra, Billyclub, Black Flag, Black Market Baby, The Briefs, The Business, Buzzcocks, The Casualties, Channel 3, Circle Jerks, The Clash, sparrer, The Cramps, Culpables, The ed, Dead Kennedys, DEK, Desa, DI, The Diffs, Discharge, Division of Laura Lee, DOA, Dropkick Murphys, The Exploited, Fallopian, Flipper, The Forgotten, Funeral Dress, Fugazi, Generation X, GBH, The Germs, The God Awfuls, Good Charlotte, Green Day, Billy Idol, Iggy Pop, The (International) Noise Conspiracy, Iron Cross, Juliette and the Licks, L7, Malas Cartas, MC5, Minor Threat, Mordingjarnir, My Chemical Romance, Naked Agression, Narcoleptic Youth, NOFX, The Offspring, Once and Again, Operation Ivy, Orange, Pennywise, Peter and the Test Tube Babies, Plan B, Pogo Atak, Punk Rock Objects, The Rabble, The Ramones, Rancid, Rasputin, Rocket Rockers, Henry Rollins, Scream, Sex Pistols, Sham 69, Side Effect, Simple Plan, The Skulls, The Slits, T.V. Synopsis

“Lexicon Devil: The Germs Documentary” tells the story of one of Los Angeles’ seminal punk bands: The Germs, and their iconic singer Darby Crash.

The Germs single-handedly created a West Coast Punk sound that never progressed past smeared peanut butter and noisy sets, but they surely claimed their stake in the punk rock history. “Lexicon Devil” is an oral history of a time just past glitter and right before hardcore, of a place where for the first time, a generation of kids stood up to take what they believed they were owed — a stage and an audience.

By varying accounts Darby Crash was a tortured poet, a mindless junkie, a prophetic seer and an evil brat. Tortured by the need to hide his homosexuality, Darby Crash kept his edgy persona and at the same time retreated into the world of drugs and alcohol. Lexicon Devil takes a look at his story and the story of the band he shared with Pat Smear, Don Bolles and Lorna Doom through the eyes of many of the people who were there. At the same time the movie takes a look at the flash of brilliance that was The Los Angeles punk of the late 1970’s (which has long taken a historical back-seat to New York and London) and explores some of the other brilliant bands that emerged including X, The Screamers, The Weirdos and the next wave of hardcore bands that took the changing L.A. sound to the rest of the country

Interviews include, Faith Baker Sr. (Darby’s mother), Faith Baker Jr. (Darby’s sister), Joan Jett, Flea, Don Bolles, Geza X, Paul Roessler (The Screamers), Will Amato, Cliff Roman (The Weirdos), Alice Bag (The Bags), Mike Watt (The Minutemen, Firehose), Kira Roessler (Black Flag), Keith Morris (The Circle Jerks), Chris D. (The Flesheaters), El Vez (The Zeros), Theresa Kereakes, Chris Ashford, Nicole Panter (Germs’ Manager), Michelle “Gerber” Bell, Pleasant Gehman, Jenny Lens, Fat Mike (NOFX), in Killer, Bob Biggs (Slash Records), Phast Phreddy, Lucky Lehrer (Circle Jerks), Rob Henley, Senses Fail and The Diffs, Bruce Moreland (Wall of Voodoo).
