Clip - 13. Stuck in a Rut. 1988 NJHC

from SBARTS TV:

“NOT ONE PERSON IN THIS CROWD HAS A CEL PHONE THEY DIDN’T EXIST BACK IN 1988 IN THE PUBLIC…Back then cel phones did not exist in the masses…there were no dvds…they didn’t exist. I lived through the birth of Rap, Hip Hop, Punk and Hardcore, Techno, Electonica. GOA, etc…. Oh what will come next?

1988 CLUB ANTHRAX NORWALK CONNECTICUT 20 YEARS AGO LIVE SOLD OUT.
It seems like it was yesterday and it was 20 years ago. The Cold War was almost over and people feared Nuclear Weapons on a daily basis Ronald Reagan was President n Chief.
Most people were spending there time with Kenny Loggins and Footloose and nose rings or even wearing your baseball cap on backwards was sure to get you noticed especially in Greenwich Connecticut…barely anyone wore different clothes or showed off piercings like nose rings…like they do now, no one did the things they do now…
It will never be the way it was… in the beginning. but we will stand strong…
Kids… you can’t stage dive like this now a days… you can’t even congregate like this. ..please seek a peaceful freedom for tibet…and Jolt Cola was the drug of choice..”

The club was a magnet for all types of unsavory social elements — skinheads, criminals, bikers, leather-studded punks, people who liked Meat Beat Manifesto, and so forth. Anyway, on this night the skins, punkers, and metalheads, who turned out witnessed 5 badass bands of the era sharing a stage.”

CBGB -SUNDAY OCTOBER 16 HARDCORE MATINEE 1988 PART 2

HOGAN’S HEROES-PRONG-LUDICHRIST

CBGB, which opened on 315 Bowery in the Village in 1973, was instrumental in establishing New York’s punk scene of the late 1970s and early 1980s, as well as the American hardcore scene of the mid- and late ’80s.

Though CBGB was utilized as a hot spot for touring bands to hit when they came through New York, the scene that kept the bar alive during the 1980s was the underground hardcore scene. Sunday at CBGB was matinee day and “thrash day”. Every Sunday a handful of hardcore bands took the stage in the afternoon to dinnertime hours, usually for cheap. The CBGB’s matinee became an institution. This went on until early 1990s.
