I watched a punk … I watched a punk thing a few days ago and Johnny Rotten said the the UK subs were awful. In this one he slags off the Clash.
Answer me this one, Rotten - if that’s the case how come ‘Another kind of blues’ and ‘The Clash’ are better albums than Never mind the bollocks?
well technically … well technically the clash did influence everything and everyone from the 1980’s too, think about it, GBH, Crass and Exploited etc etc were all influenced by the clash, copying their ethics and attitudes, which then spawned a sea of other hardcore bands whoa ll looked and sounded exactly the same. At least the clash looked, sounded and were different in general.
YOu should make … YOu should make your own documentary…that would be cool. Mention and dig up footage of the hundreds of other great punk bands from the early years. Not all the famous ones.
And, I may get some … And, I may get some from this, but the Clash is good, but they didn’t influence the punk scene half as much as 80s bands like GBH and Discharge did. I’m sick of them being touted as the answer to punk in the 80s, when few punk bands were even paying attention to them. Everyone was being influenced by GBH, Discharge, Crass, and Exploited in those times. So why does the Clash get all the recognition? Just rambling, sorry…
It pains me to … It pains me to watch punk documentaries because they always mention the same 5-10 bands and disregard so many amazing and influential punk bands, including any crust band or oi! band. They also spend at least 15 minutes on the Sex Pistols… And the only hardcore they usually mention is Bad Brains and Black Flag… Its so annoying. Maybe I should make my own punk documentary.
look at part 2 in … look at part 2 in this series. and oh yea. i agree with you quite a bit on england not doing much new in punk. not till oi!/streetpunk anyways
1975-1979=the best … 1975-1979=the best years for music the best bands=totally honest and amazing live so many bands to see. out every night and it was worth it. now you have to pay hundreds to see a wanker like justin timberlake. whew. times suck now for sure
Sandinista is the … Sandinista is the clash’s best album imo and sooooo underrated in every sense of the word.
Then came combat rock and cut the crap…oh dear

Because the Clash …
Because the Clash went far past the punk scene. As Strummer said, the punk scene was stifled from it’s own elitism.
