Same problem as you …
Same problem as you, mate - not enough space for comments!
Anyway - Charlie used to come and watch my band, I’ve booked gigs for Charlie, I’ve had drinks with Charlie, I’ve got his number to speak to him anytime. Surely this is what punk rock is all about - you have to be approachable. Can you imagine Rotten giving you his phone number so that you could go for a pint with him? I can’t really see it, can you?

He slags the Subs …
He slags the Subs off -
the punk years #8 - Punx not dead (part 3/3)
He says - Awful band…
go fast, thousand miles an hour…
it’s unbearable to me, that.
When I first heard Stranglehold in 79 I didn’t get it. Then I saw them do a gig in Clapham and I thought they were great and I’ve loved them ever since. Has Rotten seen them - probably not. He should’ve seen them at the time before he slags them off. Steve Jones even came to one of my bands’ gigs and sat down the front watching all night!

allso johns don …
allso johns don pletty of music with other musicons, under the monicar of Pil or public image ltd, and various other projects, it would be interesting to hear some new material from the old boz, but thats just it it wont be the same contex as they arent teenagers any more, and im shore they know that, and it was thire youth that fueled alot of the anger and angst obviously! but they have bin talking about new songs, but its weather they are satisfied with them i suppose.

johnny’s a …
johnny’s a sarcastic guy, u should relax a bit, iv never heard him slag of the uk subs tho, Charlie Harper is a legend. but u dont have to like some ones opinion and aspeshaly when it comes to music cause the only thing that really maters is wot sounds good to you, but, may i ad, if they are being honest in what they say as john usually is, u can agree to differ, i know i do some times.
Rotten sees every one on his level and no ones out of reach for a good bit of fun making even steve!

That’s right, …
That’s right, nothinggrinner, I don’t get it. I don’t get most things that Rotten says for 2 reasons.
1 - He talks out of his arse.
2 - While other punk bands (the ones he slags off) like the UK Subs went on to make a few albums - Sex pistols made ONE!
When they do a gig - EVERY song is more than 30 years old - that’s pathetic.

it’s an opinoion …
it’s an opinoion and a valid one, not that i agrey fully, but i totally understand ware johnny’s coming from. and what he said didnt mean u cant be equal, he’s just has alot of respect for that culture, as we know johnny’s a massive fan of reggae. but id say influence is fine as long as the credits given ware credits due. walsing in on some one else’s culture and clamming credit be your own is disgraceful.

Ah Johnny, fail. …
Ah Johnny, fail. The whole idea behind the ska and reggae scene at that time was about racial equality. “thats not for whitey to move in on”, seriously?
March 14th, 2009 at 7:30 am
Once again Johnny …
Once again Johnny Rotten makes a prat of himself -
‘Steve Jones couldn’t play the guitar!’
What planet is this tosser on?

March 14th, 2009 at 7:30 am
Actually i think …
Actually i think you will offend a lot of punk bands with your notion of them not being able to play a note, some were good musicians, sid vicious couldn’t play the bass, he was just there to look good, if you listen to any of the other band members they will all say that they used to unplug his bass he was that bad.
March 14th, 2009 at 7:30 am
Punk wasn’t about …
Punk wasn’t about knowing how to play, it was the opposite. That was the point. Alot of young people hated the music industry & recognised they were only in it for the millions. So instead of making a passive stand like the hippies did & resisting from the outside, they developed anarchy & would make a joke out of them from the inside.
Having a band that couldn’t play their instruments was a joke on the record industry. Like they’ll jump on anything that’s popular even if they couldn’t play.
March 14th, 2009 at 7:30 am
thats stupid. sid …
thats stupid. sid vicious joined the sex pistols and didnt even know how to play bass. what the was he doing in the band then?

Yes I’m sure you’re …
Yes I’m sure you’re right. I’m just old and “out of the loop”. I loosen my necktie and “check in” from time to time to see what’s going on with the revolution. It’s always been primarily the job of younger people with less to lose.
That said, punk is created on a template of past punk bands, things like NIN are infused by it but are a bit more innovative in the sense that there isn’t much else like it out there. Let’s credit both compared to the vapid tripe we hear on top 100 radio.
